Wizzie to the Rescue!

After I finished the wristlet in my last post, I quilted up a few more pieces of fabric to make some more wristlets.  I picked up the right ribbon to make the matching key fob to the tulip wristlet, and set out to get that made.

Ummm....a slight problem!  It seems that my embroidery machine did not want to turn back into a sewing machine!  I have a Brother PE-850 that has an embroidery attachment to convert it into an embroidery machine.  When this attachment is on the machine, the feed dogs drop down because they aren't needed.  When you remove the attachment, the feed dogs are supposed to pop back up for use as a sewing machine.

My feed dogs didn't pop up!  Grrr!  I removed the cover plate, brushed out the lint, and removed a couple of errant loose threads, ran the air duster over the innards of the machine, and then oiled the mechanism.   Didn't work!

What to do?  I was going to drop off the key fob today (I had already dropped off the wristlet), and I needed to get it sewn up!  I looked over in the corner  and spied my sadly neglected, 42-year-old Wizard sewing machine, which hasn't been used in about 12 years.  So, I pulled Wizzie out of the corner, wiped her down, oiled her up, adjusted the tension, and she sewed like a top!  I got the key fob sewn up in record time!

I'm pulling Wizzie out of retirement.  I figure that I can save time by not having to switch my Brother back and forth between embroidery and regular sewing by just leaving it set up for embroidery and putting Wizzie to work for straight stitching.

Wizzie has been too good a sewing partner for me to just ignore her.  I made countless things for myself and my children on her.  Sewing on her this morning brought back lots of sweet memories!

So, even though I still need to work on those darned ol' feed dogs, I am so glad to know that Wizzie still sews so beautifully and that I still have her!

Have a great weekend!

Peggy
